Maryland, Police Chief Greg Eyler has told the reporters that the vehicle had been parked on the street outside an officer's house in Thurmont, .
At around 12:30 AM, the officer heard an explosion. He and his wife went outside, and they found the remains of a pipe bomb just beside his vehicle.
Eyler said that it looked like someone placed the pipe bomb on the hood of the vehicle against the windshield. The main damage happened to the vehicle was in the windshield, and the bomb blew out one side window.
The explosion blew shrapnel into a nearby house, sources told CBS News homeland security correspondent Jeff Pegues.
According to Eyler no one was injured.
Pegues reported that the bomb fragments were taken for analyzing at a lab for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
No one came under arrest and the motive was not clear.
