Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asserted on Thursday that the Election Commission has been discovered "in the act" of manipulating votes under the guise of Special Intensive Revision of electoral lists in Bihar. He questioned whether the election authority has entirely become the "Vote Theft Division" for the BJP.

The Election Commission has consistently stated that this revision, which is happening for the first time in 22 years, aims to clean up the voter list by removing ineligible individuals, duplicate entries, and adding those who legally qualify to vote. Gandhi shared a post from Ajit Anjum, who runs a YouTube channel discussing the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Gandhi expressed in a post in Hindi on X, "The Election Commission in Bihar has been caught in the act of vote theft while claiming it is 'SIR.' The operation is merely theft, but it is labeled as 'SIR,' and anyone who reveals this will face legal action!". He also asked, "Is the Election Commission still the 'Election Commission,' or has it turned into the BJP's 'Vote Theft' section?" said the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Ajit Anjum has been accused by local authorities of inciting communal discord in the Begusarai district. He has refuted these charges and uploaded a screenshot of an FIR filed against him. Opposition parties claim that this ongoing effort will disenfranchise millions of qualified Indian voters due to a lack of citizenship documents. On Wednesday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar expressed gratitude to the eligible voters in Bihar for their strong involvement in the essential task of cleaning up the electoral rolls during the SIR. Kumar's comments were made in light of the Supreme Court reviewing multiple pleas that question the motives behind the SIR as the state prepares for assembly elections later this year.
