Maryland Inmate Escaped From Parking Lot

An inmate who has been sentenced to over 100 years for the crimes including the attempted murder of police officers has escaped from the parking lot of a mental hospital in the Maryland after he slipped away from his handcuffs in the police van, said the officials, sparking a manhunt on Friday.

David Watson, has escaped from the custody of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office at the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center in Jessup, Maryland, where the evaluation was scheduled, according to the law enforcement officials. Watson bolted into the woods, reported the Fox 45.

Police immediately launched a manhunt with the K-9 dogs and helicopters. The 28-year-old inmate's handcuffs and the waist chain were turned up near the van, said the Howard County police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn, adding that Watson had been serving his sentence in the Delaware.

He has been charged with attempted murder and also other offenses on the Maryland's Eastern Shore related to shootings of the police officers homes.

Watson was described to be a white male, 5-foot-8-inches in height and weighing 140 pounds. Watson was wearing all-white when he escaped, said Llewellyn.

It was still not clear whether his escape was planned or just spontaneous, added the spokeswoman.
