
A 20 years old college volleyball player had been killed in a two-car collision on Maryland 140 near Tyrone Road.
Alyssa Bowen, 20 years old, of Westminster, had been driving a 2005 Volkswagen Beetle east on Md. 140 around 11:17 AM on Monday, when she was slowing down or stopping to make a left turn onto Tyrone Road and was rear-ended by a Kia Forte driven by an 18 years old woman from Westminster, according to a news from Maryland State Police.
Bowen had been injured severely and flown to Shock Trauma at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. She later died of her injuries. The 18 years old driver had been rushed to Carroll Hospital.
This was around the 16th death on Carroll County roadways so far this year, and the third in the last 12 days.
There were 16 fatalities on Carroll roads in 2015 and 11 in 2014. On average, 16 traffic deaths per year has occured in Carroll, according to data from 2010 through 2015.
Bowen was a volleyball player at Lancaster Bible College in Pennsylvania.
Lancaster Bible College volleyball coach Lauren Bewley said, "Her joy was always genuine and bright. Her smile could change the climate of our team. She leaves a hole on our team and in our hearts. We are so thankful that we will be a team again someday in heaven”.
