
Baltimore police shot an armed man who they said was firing at officers on Thursday evening.
Baltimore police Media Relations Chief T.J. Smith has informed that four plainclothes officers were in an unmarked police car in the area of the 2300 block of Winchester Street when they heard the gunfire around 9:30PM.
Smith said, "They actually heard gunfire. When they heard this gunfire, they drove toward it at one of the apartment buildings on Winchester Street. They drove into the parking lot and they saw a man armed with an AR-15-style rifle, firing that weapon. He was firing that weapon and he turned that weapon toward officers and started firing the weapon toward officers and the officers returned fire,"
Smith informed that the armed man was struck once in the upper body. The suspect fled into an apartment building and was caught on the second floor. He was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead.
Police said that the gun was found in a wooded area behind the apartment building. No casualty on officers or civilians were reported.
It took hours for police to secure the scene because it was unclear that how many people were involved.
Smith said, "It was a very chaotic scene. We did not know if we have more than one suspect on the scene. There was a methodical search to make sure there weren't any more suspects. It was a chaotic scene."
Baltimore police said that they recovered this gun in a wooded area outside an apartment complex where a man fired at officers. According to Baltimore Police , two officers who fired at the suspect were both on routine administrative duties. The officers were wearing protective vests with police markings.
