If you have been looking for a good time to do some spring cleaning, then now might be it. “American Pickers,” the History Channel show which features antique everyday treasures of people around the country, is soon coming to Maryland, and the show’s producers said that they are looking for entertaining characters with the intriguing items. “We’re just looking for people with big personalities, private collections and interesting stories to tell,” said Thomas Carrera, a casting member of the show.
Rather than the showcase established collections and collectors, “American Pickers” follows the stars Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz as they pick through antiques which others would likely consider garbage.
As the show’s online bio states that, it “follows [Wolfe and Fritz] as they scour the country for hidden gems in junkyards, basements, garages and barns, meeting quirky characters and hearing their amazing stories.”

Because it focuses on purchasing or otherwise acquiring the private items, the show would not feature stores, malls, flea markets, museums, auctions, businesses or anything which open to the public.
In the early 2010, “American Pickers” premiered as one of the highest-rated History Channel debuts ever, with more than three million viewers for the show. Earlier in this year, the show also wrapped its 16th season.
The show has come through Maryland before. The crew tries to stop along the East Coast area at least once a year, Carrera said, due to the rich history of Maryland.
He also recalled a recent example out of Massachusetts, a grandson, who contacted the show with a story about how his grandfather had buried an antique Indian motorcycle on a plot of land. He did not want anyone else to ride it, said the grandson. After digging around the area, the bike was found. Carrera stressed that folks looking to be featured on the “American Pickers” do not need all the pieces of the puzzle.
“American Pickers” will continue searching for the locations through May.
